  1. austonreef says:

there are several different way he affects us but the main one is that with out him the Renaissance would basically be postponed

His efforts in shrinking the world contributed towards today’s globalised world where I can eat Californian grapes, drink Australian wine, drive a Japanese car, listen to Argentine Tango, brew Ethiopian coffee, read Indian literature, go on safari in South Africa, ski in Chile, have a dram of Scotch whiskey, and wear a shirt made in China.

We live in a very interlinked world grown wealthy by trade and with cross-cultural influence, and this is a result of the Age of Exploration which began in the 15th century and included Magellan’s circumnavigational expedition as one of its major landmarks.

Hard to tell. Had he not ventured out on his voyages of exploration, it’s impossible to assume that someone else would not have done it in his stead. Sooner or later, the other continents were going to be ‘discovered’ (a misnomer, because they were always there, always inhabited, all that happened was the came into the purview of the European nations) so in that respect, you probable would have ended up being born exactly where you were.
My vote is old Ferdie didn’t have any effect on your life today
